Not politics, just common sense
"homeschooled students have an unfair advantage because they
can train all day while their peers are in school."
TRUE
"What parent is actually going to think that its sensible
even that their kid just trains all day and doesnt prepare for
everything else in life?"
Every single sociopathic parent that ever existed. Just look
at the lives of "child" models, actors, singers and most athletes.
Their parents get rich, and at 30 they are sometimes pennyless and
usually more ignorant than someone that didn't go to school at all.

PS Britney Jean Spears started her "professional career" when
she was 3 years old. Her father, a religious fanatic and a raving
alcoholic (IOW, a "conservative") held her purse-strings until she was
over 30.... "for her own good" of course.

Along those lines of thought, the organizers should not have
collected entry fees from disfavored contestants.
Almost a scam, unless the rules said quite clearly that
home-schooled children would get a "certificate" and not a medal. In
which case the parents were probably "home-schooled" as well, IOW
unable to understand the rules.
I'd often do public contests just for the "certificate" and to
test my medical knowledge. When I was called up to take the job, I'd
just say "I did it for the certificate". LOL.
