 USA tariffs used to be in line with most other countries, hence the easy
trade across countries and indeed multiple parts and so on, this is well a
trade war with China mostly.

Maybe "as bad as" other countries', but not "in line with".
I agree that, as screwy as other arrangements may be, china is  special case, and not just for USA industry. UK has its own troubles in that regard.
