Andrew, I was wrong and you were correct to a certain extent. Talking
to Chris Robinson yesterday he told me that the calipers on my brakes
had been recalled by Shimano and that was the problem. He is taking
care of it. He said that he has a French tool for refacing the flats
which is difficult to come by. He was too busy to question but I assume
it is VAR. He said that neither Shimano or Park tools put the flats in
the same plane but the French tool does.

He said that he will have the components in next week and the brakes
working shortly thereafter.

The seat post components that I ordered Wednesday are coming in today
and the same saddle that I have on the DeRosa Merak which seems to
perfectly fit my sit bones is due next week. This one will have steek
rails rather than carbon fiber so the Time seatpost will work better.

Except for the BMC everything else is up for sale though thee is always
the chance that I may keep the Basso Loto just for old time's sake.

Hmmmmm.

What is the Shimano part number on that? Something like
BR-R8170.  I can't find any notice of any hydraulic caliper
recall by Shimano.

All I found is a mechanical disc brake caliper recall:
<https://bike.shimano.com/en-NA/information/customer-services/corrective-actions/voluntary-recall---cx75-disc-brake-calipers-.html>

"Shimano Hydraulic Brake Recall"
<https://www.google.com/search?q=shimano%20hydraulic%20brake%20recall>
If Google search can't find it, it doesn't exist.

Someone else please ask Tom for the maker and model of the bicycle and
brakes (both original and replacement).  I'm too lazy to ask.

The fact it’s not all over the cycling news sites or media let alone on
their own website means I’m rather cynical about it!
