Otherwise, there's nothing in his resume that is even remotely
associated with experience in virology. Perhaps Tom can help with the
name of what institute was funding his "team"?
AFAIU the PCR machine wasn't developed with any specific disease in mind, and Mullis didn't even have the idea for the PCR process until 1983. The machine itself was only developed in 1986.
