A tricky puzzle for some! I acquired mine from a friend, who disassembled it then couldn't get it working again.
I had our school machinist do a cutaway of another one (which required annealing certain parts), in which I painted the inner parts to match a "how it works" poster from Sturmey-Archer. That was a display in my laboratory for a long time.
Planetary gearsets are used in other applications, but are not commonly understood.
