I scored an older unit complete with all the rods ...but they are not set correctly . The 1.5-2.5" is off by about .009" short of 1.5 when the thimble is zeroed . Looking into the end that goes into the head I see a setscrew . I think this is used to set the rod length but I want to be sure of procedure before I go reefing on it . The other question I have is about the "extended" setting . The head only has .500 of travel and there are 2 setscrew dimples in the mounting sleeves . When in the "long" dimple it's about .050" short . I suspect there must have been a .500 sleeve that set the proper length in the long position . Any help will be appreciated !

I guess I should have mentioned this is the Sherr-Tumico unit I posted about last week .

I wish I had something constructive to say... so instead I'll say this, "If you can make it give you useful readings it probably isn't wrong."

Yesterday I drilled and tapped a mold for bolt on hinges. (Shop made hinges) One hinge was 1/16 inch off on all three holes. I put a washer in between, and not only does it work great, but it looks cool like a layered knife scale.

After correction I reprinted my print and stuck it to the mill with a magnet. Then I shipped the mold. Now the print clearly shows a washer used as a spacer in the lower hinge.

There ya go , making lemonade again ! I've done a little poking around , there is a .500" spacer missing . Length adjustment is going to be easy , that is a setscrew in the sleeve . The rods are threaded so all I need to do is figure how much and which way to adjust them . For now I'm going to get the 2.5 - 3.5" rod set up so I can fit a couple of cylinder sleeves . Gotta be pretty accurate on this one , the cast aluminum (water cooled) cylinder block walls are kinda thin and I'm afraid if I put too much interference on the fit I'll crack one . That would be a Bad Thing .
P.S. My corrected print does not actually say, "Scab washer in here."
