I was aggressively pushing a 3/8 HSS drill though a piece of 304 SS round bar and I set the light cutting oil I was using on fire just before I broke through.  I don't recall even blinking.  I just pushed it through a little further to make sure the hole would be big enough.
Then I leaned forward and blew out the flame.
The amazing part to me is I drilled 4 more holes in some steel pipe afterwards with the same drill bit, and the 3/8 pins went right on.
The fire doesn't surprise me at all.  Before I started I told myself I should walk over to the lathe and grab the heavy cutting oil.  What surprised me is that HSS drill is still a hole making machine.  Maybe that shouldn't surprise me either.  HSS is known for being able to tolerate some serious heat.

That was the connecting rod and couplers to join the landing gear on the goose neck trailer.
