Any tips for gathering internet recipes

I gathered an internet recipe and when I went to cook it I found it bland.  Thus far I have had success with recipes from famed cookbooks. "The Joy of Cooking," "The Enchanted Broccoli Forest," and a few others I've forgotten the name of right now.  It seems those collections have the great personality that brings the recipes together.
