Yes... doesn't look too dissimilar to pike. I think I would like it! =) I bet they are fun to catch as well!

Very much so, they are flash attracted so dragging a shiny spoon lure produces a visible chase and strike if the water is clear.

Excellent! Florida, here I come (assuming the wife does push me to do a
US trip in 2025)!

Speaking of a US trip, is it safe an convenient to travel with Amtrak? I
saw a documentary about the Crescent train

that goes from New Orleans to New York, and I would assume, from New
York to New Orleans. Can one trust this line without any delays?

Absolutely NOT!

Bus service at times in substitution.
Oh, what a shame. =( Maybe renting a car would be the safer way after all.
It would, but then you lose the reading time.

And the interior of even a top Amtrak roomette is old and spartan and full of squeaks and rattles.
And here I thought beautiful, aged, wood interior, roomy and comfortable, and very well insulated to block any outside noise. =(
We have express, but no Orient.

On the positive side the train personnel (mostly all black) are top notch, friendly, helpful and take their careers seriously.
Very good! I find that black people are much better at customer service than white people! =)
It harkens back to a time when the customer was king, and in a decent way.

An embryo of a trip has started to form. Fly in to New York, take that
train, and get off at various interesting places along the way (Virginia
beach?), after New Orleans, the question is... east or west? I'd really
like to go fishing in Florida but I also would like to eat steak in
Texas! Hmm... choices, so many choices. =(

Just bring a flexible schedule and lots of atience and on any gven day you should be fine.
Well, sounds liket the swedish train system!
Oh no, really?

I guess I'm cherry picking.

Here's a trustworthy primer on Amtrak:

Excellent! This could be tonights TV!
You can bird dog a lot of America with confidence in this couple.

And please don't be put off by our shabbiness, it's really a freight rail nation this way.
No worries... I live in eastern europe now, and have seen my fair share of shabbiness. ;)
