I love that guy, dammit! I was thinking of putting together a
Telecaster
with a single P-90 in the bridge. I did get a pickguard but the
guy in
China never bothered to send me a body. That's okay. I'll just
stick two
P-90s into a short-scale, cheap-ass, Glarry Mustang clone. That
might be
a fun guitar - maybe.

I mean why not!

The single pickup, student models are trendy these days. OTOH, I
suppose
it doesn't really matter much what guitar you play - it's all good.
Or,
good enough anyway.

Digging the early Jazzmaster.

A strange thing happened today. There was an amp and a guitar in the
back of the car. My daughter said somebody didn't want it. The guitar
was a Starcaster. It's a Chinese made Strat copy sold by Fender. That's
so weird. When I tried it in the back of the car, it felt like a dirt
cheap junk that needed a lot of work.

They also do a very attractive thinline semi-hollowbody model:

When I got a chance to check it out at home, the neck needed to be
shimmed a bit. I used a .25° shim and hit it spot on. The neck just
feels perfect. I thought it would have to have the nut adjusted but it
was right on too. Amazing - the neck feels great. Playing through a bass
amp, the pickups sound just beautiful. The E and the A strings sound
dead but the rusty and crusty treble strings sound wonderful. The amp is
a Fender Mustang LT-50 modeling amp that looks new.

We also test drove a Transit Connect cargo van that we'll probably buy.
Maybe I can keep the amp and guitar in the back and do some playing
while on the road. I wonder if the guitar would fit on the racks? It
could work. All in all, today was a pretty good day.

A thinline Starcaster would be something special alright. For unknown
reasons, Fender brought back the Starcaster name for a line of guitars
that's cheaper than the Esquire - if you can imagine such a thing could
possibly exist. The neck and the body geometry seems to be right on
though. The neck is a nice, well made, one. I certainly can't complain.

I find the tonality to be quit acceptable for basic Tom Petty or Byrds
covers - and so on.
What I'd really like is an old 70 Aria acoustic guitar like I used to
have. it was wonderful.
Great company - and they did a great LP clone too:
https://youtu.be/5qepaHwP534Japanese Guitar History - The story of Matsumoku and Aria Pro II
I traded it for a custom color Gibson Firebird
and $200. It had a distinctive green factory paint job. It might have
been the only Firebird of that color in existence. I never liked the
sound of that guitar - too harsh for my sensitive ears. In the hands of
an experienced, aggressive, bluesman, that could bend the guitar to his
will, it would just slay.
https://notomguitars.com/products/1965-gibson-firebird-iii
An eclectic axe that Firebird - mainly Johnny Winter comes to mind as its "face" in the rock market.
But Skynyrd's Allen Collins and later phase Allman bro Warren Haynes (Govt. Mule) sure kicked out some tunes too, eh?
https://youtu.be/qNW0pioGSFU?t=67This Crossroads version kicks ass! He's singing it, not screaming it.
I have always wondered what he'd have sounded like with this beauty:
https://youtu.be/rNESwjbiJ7AOf course that's a delta blues acoustic setting, so does that soapbar neck pickup scream?
Why yes, yes she does:
https://youtu.be/G0infO0TrlUI mean c'mon man...I had to go to Perth, Au. to get that one...dang.
In any event, there's a work of guitar art for ya!
