Not necessarily. Remember that only 20% of Americans speak a second
language, and a lot of those are first- or second-generation immigrants.
I used to speak German, but haven't exercised it in almost 50 years.
At this point, I can order a beer and ask my way to the bathroom. Oh,
and I can tell when German-speaking actors in movies learned their
lines by parroting someone who actually speaks German.
