New cast iron is basically Lodge, without many other options. I always see Lodge cast iron sold individually. New pieces are more rough and heavy than the good old brands, for whatever reason. I'd be surprised if Lodge is even made in North America anymore.
I used to prefer Wagner, had a better finish. Wagner brand is coming back though.I haven't heard of them before this thread. My other favorite skillet is a no-name from 1880 or before. It's a fair size, but nice and light. Perhaps the Smithey skillets are the same way. I dislike Lodge due to being so heavy and bulky.
