he's been there nearly 7 years now, and ownership has changed 3
times. owner is now some conglomerate that own apartment
complexes all over the country. they're chiseling away at what
people can do there. wasn't allowed to have a real tree for
christmas, it was get a fake one or have none at all. i
understand why, the liability issues. is how society is now,
the many have restrictions because of a few miscreants.

he's working around the grill ban this spring. there's nothing in
the lease (yet) about fire pits. i'm giving him mine and getting
another. soon as the spring open fire ban passes he'll be
cooking outdoors again. 🙂

Where?  Is there some open common area where he could set up a fire pit?
the complex resembles and is run like a small village. all the
apartments are two story and have a cement patio with sliding
glass doors in the back. the patios are not covered. that's where
he grilled. and he did it at least 5 times a week rain, shine, or
snow. that's why i called them monsters, he's passionate about
grilling and it was taken away from him. behind the building he's
in are residential homes separated by a fence. city ordinance says
3 foot diameter max fire pits no less than 15 feet from combustible
materials. there's about 50 feet between the patio and fence. having
a fire pit half way between is well within city code.
we're curious how many "campfires" he's going to be able to have
before an addendum to the rules is sent out by management. :)

Perhaps he can invite some neighbors to join in, they can all have a few big cook-outs.  That way when they change the apartment complex rules (and you *know* they will) they can all band together.  Of course, the apartment complex will claim it is on their private property, city code be damned.
