Personally, I preferred the Payday Bar.  Salted roasted peanuts on top
of a caramel topped nougat centered candy bar.  They still taste the
same as they did when I first tried one 40 years ago. :)  Kind of hard
to mess with that.

  yes, funny you mention them, they were among my favorites
too for the same reasons you cite.  the other thing is that
i like Babe Ruth candy bars of old, but now they suffer the
same fate as the RPBC...  all sweet, no flavor.

 Except when they tried to cover them in chocolate.
Not everything needs to be covered in chocolate.  I don't know that it
was a huge seller.  I have not bothered to look it up.

  i never had one of those or saw them, but i think by then
i may have pretty much gone off commercial candy because i got
into making my own.
