People tend to blame the illegal border crossers for bringing in drugs. Some of these crossing at checkpoint have hundreds of thousand of dollars of the stuff on one trip. Sadly, it is supply and demand as people ingest the stuff.
Funny how people are quick to blame foreigners for smuggling in drugs to meet the domestic demand. There was a time when I thought that decriminalizing hard drugs would solve the criminal issues associated with illegal drug use. The results of the soft approach and the presence of safe injection sites has changed my mind. Drug use around here has soared and the safe injection sites did not reduce OD and opioid deaths. They seem to have accomplished nothing more than legitmize illegal drug use.
That is because the users are still buying illegal, unregulated drugs. They are not ODing on pharmaceutical grade morphine or heroin. They are ODing on street drugs of unknown ingredients and potencies.
