I have to count my blessings. Our provincial government wanted to downsize and offered an early retirement package. I was eligible for full pension and benefits at 53. I would have liked to stay on until my son finished university but if I did not leave in that 6 month window I would have been stuck there for another 5 years. There was also the possibility of being laid off. Not thanks. I took it and ran and I have not looked back.
