That would explain it.  Canned spinach sucks.

I grew up with occasional canned spinach. It wasn't bad with vinegar,
olive oil, salt and pepper. I haven't seen a can of it in many years.
If I did find some, I wouldn't buy it now. It's not a taste that I
cherish from my childhood.
