 I knew nothing about the other appointment. She has a busy life and goes off to do her thing. The point was that it had slipped her mind because she was so worried about the eye surgery. She was afraid that she was going to lose her eye and had to go through that face down recovery. If you know anyone who has been through it they can explain what an ordeal it is.
 

My aunt had a detached retina and had to spend a few weeks face down on the bed with a special pillow to make sure it didn't detach again after the surgery.  Without following those specific instructions she could have gone blind.  Seems to me that's a lot more important than forgetting to cancel another appointment.
