'Bonanza' was also the first major prime - time US network show to be
broadcast in color...

spur sales of RCA-manufactured color television sets (RCA was also the
primary sponsor of the series during its first two seasons)..."
RCA had introduced color TV in 1954, but it was initially a flop because
of the high cost of sets and a lack of color programming...
