I don't think I'd be happy with any remake of Roots.  I also didn't
need remakes of The Magnificent Seven, War of the Worlds, or The
Longest Yard.  Or practically any other remake that Hollywood has
seen fit to foist on us.  I'm grateful Casablanca seems to be off
limits nowadays.

 I tend to avoid remakes. There aren't many that have been an improvement on the original. I liked the original Total Recall. The remake was horrible. That being said, the most recent remake of All Quiet on the Western Front was great.
 

Occasionally I will find out that a film was a remake after I've already watched it.  In such a case I usually side with the remake. Unfortunately I can't think of any examples right now.
