  It’s been nearly 200 years since white performers first started painting their faces black to mock enslaved Africans in minstrel shows across the United States. It was racist and offensive then, and it’s still racist and offensive today.

I watched a new episode of 'Finding Your Roots' on PBS a couple of weeks ago.  A white historian sat at the table and read to black historian Henry Louis Gates, Jr. *his* family ancestry which included white former slave owners.  Of course he knew that but they had never delved into his family tree before.  It was an interesting turning of the table for them to use the records and DNA to track back his early ancestors and give him a map.  I'm pretty sure most black people are aware of having that sad history in their lives, having white ancestors.  They don't choose to dwell on it or keep beating the dead horse.  Continuing to play the blame game is useless.  Being "woke" is not a new thing, it just has a new stupid name.
