Depends on the situation.  My son had a patient in the ER last night that tried to burglarize a house.  Homeowner took one shot. They took the bullet out of his heart.
  Legal here and should be.  Protection of your home is OK, it is the road rage, gangs, and getting PO'd at a neighbor that is wrong.
Dave pointed out some of the stupidity of gun owners and kids shooting parents and siblings because of poor handling and storing of firearms.
