Without taking anything away from the horrors the Germans committed in
the 30s and 40s, I think that, these days, Germany's one of the more
civilised countries.
 

Unfortunately, the extreme right party is making alarming inroads there.

But that's the case in many European countries. In the Netherlands,
they're in government (with 3 other parties). I guess that, in
Germany, their growing popularity is extra ominous.
