Mengelberg's Beethoven I tihnk is mean, and dark... and clever and
funny. Very good. And also apocalyptical ofc, and also zen, but it never
sucks - the vulgarity never crosses the line of being of bad taste, it
is like a sophisticated form of vulgarity. With Furtwängler it always
comes across as a bit barbaric when he lets the orchestra erupt, but not
so with Mengelberg...
