Listened to a few of his symphonies again in an attempt to reevaluate
Celibidache‘s Beethoven of which I have also grown more - actually I was
critical of his Beethoven all along, but of others’ as well… and wrt
some details he is actually inspiring - as is some of the sound he draws
from the orchestra, every instrument actually, maybe very clearly the
violins and brass.
So, the thing is, I clearly like Bach and Schubert - not to mention
Mozart - more than Beethoven, these days I’d also rather listen to more
modern stuff than Beethoven — I feel Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Schoenberg,
Webern and also Berg‘s music to be more reflected (not more „thought
out“ but more reflected).
I also don’t feel I need Haydn… not really anything i find very good…
and Schumann hmmm… not either I guess.. not saying they’re trash
composers, I still rate them above all the other unmentioned composers I
know about…
