Yeah i think im done with beethoven

Listened to a bit of his symphonies piano music etc… and ya I just don’t
feel his music is reflected…
Honestly… I most like some of his early work - except for some later
works; sure he is better than 99,999…% of the composers but he is no
Mozart or Bach or Schubert or Brahms
The problem for me is - similar with Mahler and Schumann btw - is that I
can’t enjoy the full works most of the time… they have really beautiful
moments, but most of it is just uninteresting to me…
Also interestingly while I feel the music wants to be played in the
fashion of Mengelberg or Furtwängler — I just fucking hate it honestly…
but then I also hate Celibidache‘s Beethoven - or Klemperer’s or Szells
- despite being more clear etc
Similar to Schnabel vs more modern pianists — like volodos or Pletnev
does not really work in Beethoven…
Like the way we want music to sound these days — very clear everything
being heard etc - or maybe it’s the way I want it to sound - makes
Beethoven completely dull — no colors most of the time or very
uninteresting… Mengelberg or Schnabel approach makes more sense yyet i
don’t like it — and just imagining the sounds of them playing Beethoven
perfectly - without as much mistakes - while still sticking to their
style, their rubato etc etc… it would make it sound worse I think… so it
almost feels mistakes make Beethoven’s music more beautiful…
Can’t say that wrt the other 4 mentioned composers — or Schönberg Webern
or berg
