I’ve been having this problem with Beethoven since I began listening to
cm — going back and forth… everytime i ‚dismiss‘ his music i feel bad
remembering all the beautiful and funny things in his work… then when i
listen to his works again, i feel i was right all along…
There is something Kant calls the sublime - in German: das Erhabene -
which in some way characterizes the moments i dislike, but not in the
sense of „sublime“ - because Mozarts music is sublime - but because it’s
more exalted than sublime or sth
Just stumbled upon this:
„ Sublime poetry, in Longinus' view, is characterized by the use of
elevated language and imagery that transcends ordinary experience and
touches on the divine or transcendent. This type of poetry aims to
inspire awe and wonder in the reader or listener and to convey a sense
of the sublime or the infinite. Longinus believed that sublime poetry
had the power to transport the reader or listener beyond the limits of
their own experience and to connect them with something greater than
themselves.
Exalted poetry, on the other hand, is characterized by the use of strong
emotions and vivid descriptions to evoke powerful responses in the
reader or listener. This type of poetry aims to stir the passions and to
create a sense of excitement or enthusiasm. Longinus believed that
exalted poetry had the power to move people to action and to inspire
them to great deeds.
— now I have trouble with some of what Longinus says here.. but in some
ways it’s also appropriate to differentiate Mozarts sublimity from
Beethoven’s sublimity/exaltedness

Kant differentiates The Beautiful (das Schöne) from the Sublime (das
Erhabene)
Observations on the Feeling of the Beautiful and Sublime (German:
Beobachtungen über das Gefühl des Schönen und Erhabenen) is a 1764 book
by Immanuel Kant.
