That's an exaggeration. They are not "fake stereo" in the usual sense of
the term. There is a slight phase shift for ambiance, it's barely
noticeable. I don't mind it at all, and one could argue it helps what
are very dry recordings.

They have the authentic tapes *before* they processed
them! They didn't release them, they intervened and
issued them through a "filter" of the fake stereo some
call ambiance. The "ambiance" acts like a barrier
between the source and the listener.

They have the real tapes, they have no excuse to
not release them on CD un-muddied by revisionist
engineering.

Fans of *intrusive* engineering can go gangbusters
with labels like Iron Needle, Urania, etc., they
have plenty of fake *ambiance*.
