I have no clue but would like to know.

It is correct within reasonable
dialect variance. The speaker
does not have a 100% official
Bucharest TV News accent. She
sounds like someone from the
Northern part of the country
who is trying hard to speak
with a Bucharest accent.

Celibidache was himself from
Northern Romania, aka Western
Moldova.

Hope this helps.

All I can say is that my own guess
about that pronunciation would not
have been even close.

Thanks!

You are most welcome. Just curious
about the reason for your curiosity:
how does it matter? Isn't music the
universal language? ;-)

Cheers!

I would only like to be properly informed.

That's great!

Is that so strange to you?

Not at all.

If I were to be in a conversation with
someone about this subject matter, I
would certainly want to pronounce the
name of the conductor properly. Wouldn't
you want to do the same?

Of course, I always strive to pronounce
all foreign words corectly, not only
person names.
Probably out of a pursuit of general correctness ;)

If you search the r.m.c.r. archives you
may notice I am among very few pedantic
strict literalists in this ng who insist
on using correct plural forms for concerto
(concerti), sonata (sonate), piano (piani),
and so on. I also translate Mondschein
correctly as Moonshine rather than
Moonlight.
Oh man… what a great guy you are… let’s all give him a round of applause
shall we?
- pure narcissism at display here…

Sure, music is a universal language,
no translation required, but an artist
deserves to have his name pronounced
correctly... doesn't he?

All people deserve to have their names
pronounced correctly, not just artists.
Even Homo Harminius Batavicus Horribilis.

Why do you find it odd that I want to
know this?

I didn't find it "odd". I was just curious
to find out if there was a specific reason
for asking about Celibidache, rather than
just the pursuit of general correctness.
Well what’s wrong about a pursuit of general correctness here? Seems
like you have projected again sth you don’t like about yourself onto
palsing only to fight it there…
See:
Dan doesn’t like general correctness, but he himself feels compelled to
pronounce foreign words correctly (out of general correctness), so
instead of realizing that he himself is pronouncing foreign words
correctly out of general correctness (that’s not all; he likes to feel
superior by pronouncing the words correctly; and superior that he knows
the Romanian language better than palsing — see how he displayed his
„knowledge“ about different Romanian dialects), he attacks palsing,
stirs up conflict, accusing him of what Dan does himself..
Furthermore any person with empathy would realize, that it’s not just
out of a pursuit for general correctness (pronouncing foreign words
correctly would give you bonus in certain social settings) that palsing
is asking this question, but simply because of curiosity…
Dan apparently doesn’t even realize how simple curiosity would lead to
people asking this — Dan is always in the look for what he can get out
of sth, and pronouncing foreign names correctly would earn him „respect“
in certain circles… Dan can’t fathom the idea one would simply ask this
out of curiosity ;) (well the last sentence is exaggerated, but it goes
exactly in this direction)
And now he plays stupid again ;)
Don’t fall for it

>
Take care
A round of applause for Dan for being pedantic about pronouncing foreign
words correctly please ;D
