Okay… so we don‘t complain about Hitler and Hamas?
You see the Problem with Kook here is the following (his attitude is in
some way Positivist; he‘s looking at it from the wrong angle):
We don‘t know what Real Justice Looks Like. As Horkheimer argued, the
good - the absolute good - can not be represented. Just Like how in
Jewish lore Olam Haba can‘t be represented; we don‘t know how a really
humane world, a really just world would Look like. We can only address
things that seem wrong, or that Are amiss…
A declaration of what is good as such has repeatedly led to terrible
atrocities in our known history (Think about what happened in the Name
of the Christian good happened in the Middle Ages. Think of what
happened in virtually every nation, when one considers oneself as
absolutely good and the others as being less (ahem Meir Kahane. Think of
Communism that has represented itself as the absolute ideal (Marx Never
really described how a Communist Society Looks Like btw, just like
Judaism Never really described olam haba). The critical theory (Adorno
and Horkheimer) says that you can Show what is detrimental and try to
overcome it (ahem circumcision), but you can Not represent the Ultimate,
the very highest good. Consequently critical theory puts its Main
emphasis on the critique of Society and not some Image of the absolute
Right Society (Similar to Bilderverbot, second commandment).
