Nope. Callas was not a true coloratura.
Her voice sounds strained in this aria.

Callas' voice was too thick and too heavy

Not going to reopen a long-winded diatribe on what is meant by "true
coloratura" and whether MC makes the bar (and how many angels can dance
on the head of a pin). Let me just refer to *the* (yes, *the*) expert on
coloratura, the late Rodolfo Celletti: this is what he had to say about
Maria, and you will have to make an effort to read it in Italian.

Thanks! I read Italian, no problem at all!

However, I never take opinions from anyone
or anything other than my own blessed ears.
I couldn't care less about what the "experts"
say. The only real expert was Leonardo! ;-)
I whipped together quickly a playlist of 25
versions found on YouTube so you can all form
(or verify) your own opinions without quoting
"experts". To my ears Hallstein is the best.
