VHF/Microwave News

Damien EI7LF, Crevan EI3JWB, and Jim EI2HJB from the Dundalk Amateur
Radio Society host a VHF/UHF net every Wednesday evening from 7.30 p.m.
This takes place before the weekly northeast region IRTS news at 8 p.m.
via the club's repeater network EI2CCR, EI2MOG, EI7DKD, and Echolink.
Call-ins and SWL reports are more than welcome.

On Wednesday nights from 8 p.m. as well, you are welcome to join a
six-metre net taking place on 50.180MHz.

A 2m FM simplex net runs each Thursday night from 8 p.m. on 145.200MHz.
All are welcome to call in to the nets.

For meteor scatter fans, the Leonids meteor shower will start to occur
from November the 6th until the end of the month. Associated with Comet
Tempel-Tuttle, they are typically fast bright meteors with fine trains.
QSOs using this mode require patience and luck. To maximise chances of
success, operators coordinate their QSO attempts using a chat facility
   available at www.on4kst.com

Amateur satellite operators may be saddened to hear that the satellites
XW-2B, 2C, and 2D are nearing re-entry into the atmosphere. The three
identical Chinese micro-satellites used for atmospheric physics
experiments and amateur radio missions were launched in 2015. In the
next few weeks, they will cease to exist after nine years in orbit when
they make a fiery return to Earth. This may be welcome news to some
terrestrial operators world-wide though. Satellite XW-2C in particular
has been transmitting what appears to be abnormal sweep-like signals on
some terrestrial VHF repeater output frequencies for several years.

net takes place next Thursday night from 9 p.m. on 3.775MHz plus or
minus QRM. All are very welcome to join in including SWLs.

The club wishes the very best to all those sitting the upcoming HAREC
exam and look forward to hearing the new callsigns on the air soon.

www.sbrc.ie or via their social media channels.
