"Followup confirms independently that the work I discussed last night is
significant but needs more development, which is where I thought I was.
The potential for the work to be dangerous is also legitimate, as is the
stark reality saying any more than that right now would only serve to
increase that potential.
The picture right now is I'm not *wrong* but there's more confirmation
and testing needed to understand whether what I'm seeing is because of
me, or some other variable that makes the whole thing not a thing at all.
I estimate 3-6 months before someone else stumbles on what I have,
barring a bad RNG throw.
That gives me about a month to keep trying to pursue institutional
solutions and support on this before I'm looking at the potential ethical
obligation to make it all public.
As things stand: everything's documented including the source data, and
stored in multiple places including a locked Github repository and a
couple of quiet little zipfiles with passwords on them living around the
internet. If it turns out that what I'm seeing, or what I'm seeing
implied by it, is wrong, then I can wipe it all and no harm no foul. If
I'm right, then it's out there in a place I don't have complete control
with timestamps and provenance and so forth, so there's no question when
I say "no, this idea came from me" or "I told you this was coming six
months or a year ago," there's not going to be any arguing about it.
Now, I breathe. I've got Pattern 1.1 to re-derive and write before the
first. Got a few other things to work on too. But right now, I've been
carrying a load you really don't want to think about for a very long
time, and I've had to not say a word about any of it which is not my way,
and I'm going to give myself the day off."
