The debate has raged for decades: Was it
humans or climate change that led to the
extinction of many species of large mammals,
birds, and reptiles that have disappeared
from Earth over the past 50,000 years?
By "large," we mean animals that weighed
at least 45 kilograms – known as megafauna.
At least 161 species of mammals were driven
to extinction during this period. This number
is based on the remains found so far.
We know that climate played a MAJOR role here,
that it couldn't have happened without the
transition from glacial-to-interglacial, because
the mega fauna didn't go extinct.
Elephants did not.
Even mammoths did not, technically. There were
still some alive when the pyramids were being
built...
Even in Roman times there were still North African
elephants, and the Syrian elephant. The Minoans
supposedly knew of pygmy elephants...
North America was greatly effected by the change
in climate, going from glacial to interglacial. In
addition, the continent suffered the double whammy
of the Younger Dryas cooling, when the climate
was transitioning to an interglacial, snapped back
into a glacial and then went back towards an
interglacial...
The northern hemisphere would have been primarily
impacted.
At the same time this /Was/ introducing large numbers
of people to North America. So the mega fauna was
under pressure already, and then the humans population
jumps up...

The largest of them were hit the hardest –
land-dwelling herbivores weighing over a ton,
You realize, of course, that this is saying that Africans
aren't people. Asians aren't either...
