This article describes the last 24 years since the discovery of the "Toumaï" skull (+ possible femur) in Chad in 2001. It's an amusing/sad account of several individuals and their squabbles over a couple of bones. Physical anthropologists greatly outnumber the fossils, and "rights" to analyze them. Apes are generally believed to have originated in the Asia duting th Miocene. The Toumaï skull seems to be an African Miocene primate. As such, it is a (very) longshot possibility that it is an ancestor of ours. Paleontology generally can claim no ancestral relations for anything, but homonins are recent enough that people try.
