Had a neighbor many years ago who hated to make corn-on-the-cob for her
family. She said it made the whole house steamy, and nobody ever ate it
anyway. Turns out she thought you had to boil it until the *cob* was
tender! My mom gave her obvious pointers, and the neighbors began
enjoying corn-on-the-cob.

Seems to be an American thing. Do any other countries eat this stuff
with the same relish?[1]

[1] Relish: in this instance means enjoyment, not the sauce you put on
burgers.
I have heard that Germans think corn is only good to feed pigs.
Fresh-picked sweet corn from the farmers' market is great. After a day
or so, the sugar turns to starch and it isn't as good.
Ideally, cook it minutes after snapping it off the stalk.
We got some dark purple corn at the Alemany Farmers Market. It was
beautiful, but not good to eat.
The purple onions, shallots, asparagus, and carrots are great.
