It's scary to think about what sorts of idiots do indeed occupy the
highest places in government. Politics is one of many professions
where more expertise and experience make people dumber.
Donald Trump was addict to self-delusion before he got into government.
Dumb people aren't good at acquiring expertise and experience - John Larkin does seem to be a case in point - and getting it doesn't make them dumber, though it may make them less likely to agree with John Larkin, which he may imagine to be evidence that they are dumb.
