Olive Schreiner born (24-3-1855)

A South African (English) writer, daughter of missionaries.
Her "Story of an African Farm" (1883) was the first South African novel. Crystal notes that it includes a glossary explaining local terms such as "karoo", "kopje" and "kraal".
"Since the late 20th century, scholars have also credited Schreiner as an advocate for the Afrikaners, and other South African groups who were excluded from political power for decades, such as indigenous blacks, Jews, and Indians."
