Meaning in the Song:          The song uses "day tripper" metaphorically
to describe a girl who isn't interested in a serious commitment, but
just a casual fling.

I believe that "trip" was a word denoting a drug episode. So the
expression "day tripper" had an obvious literal meaning with an
implication: drug use wasn't reserved for evening (social) time -
rather, the use was beyond recreational. The phrase repetition was
simply good music for balance, meter, and emphasis.
