The musical instrument known in English as a "bassoon" is known as "fagot"
in French and "faggot" in German. That is based on "bundle of rods".

The German term is "Fagott".

The NATO reporting name for the MiG-15 is "Fagot".  As far as I can
tell, all of those reporting names are taken from the wider English
lexicon.  It's not clear to me whether this one is a variant of
"faggot" (bundle of sticks or pieces of iron) or of "fagotto"
(bassoon), which are two options offered by Wiktionary.
