Yes. The country’s problems are the problems of wealth (and an unwillingness to
take in large numbers of third world workers and pay them terribly to build
infrastructure as do the Gulf states), and Harris (before this blunder) seemed
to be perceived as far more relatable than Leo Varadkar, his predecessor
(Harris has a local accent and dropped out of an undemanding college course;
Varadkar has a private-school accent, is a qualified GP and is married to a
(male) consultant cardiologist, a life that is a long way from the lived
experience of most people.)
