It's the way this newsreader is configured, and I'm in the US with all the 'only in the US' quirks. To be honest the 'rest of the world' way throws me off often. I'd personally prefer a year/month/day format myself, similar to hour:min:second and is in sorting order.

I would prefer it myself if it had any currency, but in everyday life it's hardly used anywhere (except possibly in Sweden).
