In my neighborhood (Boston, MA) there was a woman who would always
leave food out in the open to feed her beloved squirrels.  This is
just more projected motherhood.

The problem was that the food would attract and breed rats.  The
city authorities, as a matter of public health, rightly forbad
her from leaving food out in the open.  But the stupid, neurotic
bitch resisted and fought tooth and nail to keep feeding her
little "babies."

The phenomenon is real and widely recognized.

Cats, and their bitches, should be exterminated.
