This year's competition will be held in Esfahan in about 5 weeks and
ends after 1 week. I think Iran's team for this year has already been
formed cause the leader had a meeting with them today.

Scores and winners will be announced sometime after the olympic is
concluded, and medals are given for "per country" and per person.

For about 20 years, if I remember it correctly, China has won almost
every gold. Even the American team is often made of Chinese students.

The competition is held between late high school age students, not
university age students.

For Iranians, the yearly university entrance exams is somewhat
equivalent to these olympiads competitions (there are olympiads for
math, computer science, and other fields also).

The two exams have their own interesting features, and both are fun to
look into. The Iranians university entrance exams are tougher than the
olympiad questions, but competition is only with other Iranians of age
18 or very close to 18. While, for the Olympiad exams, questions may be
a tiny bit simpler, but the competition is with the whole world! So the
top ones in both exams, will sure shine!...

So I can't wait to see the results of this year's olympiad. The Iranian
university entrance exams have already been carried out, but the results
aren't out yet. The presidential helicopter crash postponed it a bit.

It would be pretty boring to again see Chinese got all the golds (and if
say two Americans got gold their names are Chinese names), so that's not
what I'm waiting for. What interest me are those exceptions, and
generally those individuals or teams that get very close to Chinese team
and individuals, because it really doesn't matter that much if you get
Gold or get Silver or Bronze over there at the top, if the competition
was against what the whole world had offered. Just being there among
those few top ones already says a great deal about them.
