No, because the gravitational attraction between the person and the earth is the /vector/ sum of the attraction between each part of the person and each part of the earth, and some of those parts of the earth are in the opposite direction of the ones below the person (and many of in oblique direction).

the weight of the cave explorer.) As long as the roof doesn't collapse,
that force doesn't affect the explorer. Go deep enough, though, and that
second weight is big enough so that the roof will indeed collapse,
