The Yoorrook Justice Commission is the first formal “truth-telling”
inquiry in Australian history, and has the same powers as a Royal
Commission.
Set up to investigate alleged “systemic injustices” against Indigenous
people, the commission can compel evidence, call witnesses, hold public
hearings and make recommendations to government. Its final report in due in
mid-2025.

Given the nasty Anglo-Celtic racist nature of over privileged hard-right
political circles within OZ (i.e. the Murdoch media machinery, Advance
Australia mob and similar, Gestapo Dutton and his henchmen and
fish_and_chips auntie Hanson with her assorted bogan goons) and their
despicable misinformation and full of outright lies campaign activities
around the voice referendum I'd say this is the least we can do for the
indigenous citizens of this continent.

This is all about exercising basic decency and human compassion,
acknowledging past mistakes while preserving democracy for all in an
equitable measure.
There is nothing far leftist about this, except for to stating the
obvious: no leftists on the planet of any kind would stay in the way of
such appropriate inquiry, in fact, just the opposite.

So your point of cross-posting this article to multiple Usenet

As someone whose family has been in Australia only since the 1950s, I
wish the Anglos' would keep me out of their issues. My family, and in
fact, many, many other Australians had nothing to do with the original
Colonisation, and yet we're constantly reminded about it, made to feel
guilty, etc.

That happens only when one successfully swallows the nasty misleading
rightwing propaganda dumps in a hook-line-sinker fashion, that is all.
The remedy is quite simple: Laying off from watching/listening
to/reading all that Murdoch and LNP propaganda rubbish.

Just look up unedited ABS data to obtain a rational view on this matter

You shouldn’t feel guilty.
It is not now nor has ever been about feeling some/any "guilt". It is
all about helping the indigenous population of this continent catching
up in their quality of their lives with the rest of us.
Nope, I am definitely not feeling guilty about the dark Australian past
as I am an immigrant myself, but I am keen on acknowledging real history
for what it is worth. One can always learn from past mistakes if the
will is there.
However what I definitely feel is being quite appalled seeing our
collective political inability, given our contemporary wealth, advanced
industrial and cultural status, to achieve relative equality and proper
acknowledgement for all people living here.
The racist and greedy capitalist political right has successfully
misconstrued the nature of real problems related to indigenous
Australian as was clearly seen in the rejected Voice referendum.

I agree, but the tone of the message, the way it is conveyed, it is as
if I share responsibility. I need to engage in reconcilation?
No. I don't think it is right to invite people to the country, THEN
tell them "oh yeah, the land is stolen, we need to make up for it.".
Well, if sovreignty was never ceded, if that is what you are telling
me, and I AM told this at work, officially(!), why do you, as a White
"colonist" continue to invite others to use this land? Are the
indegenous OK with immigration into Australia? If they are, then what
is the problem here?
Australians want to have their cake and eat it too. They want to
share the country with the world, while simultaneously trying to
reconcile the fact they "stole" the land. If it was indeed stolen,
what right do we have to give it to others? If we've gotten past it,
and now we do rightfully have land, then MOVE ON and stop dwelling on
it.
Could you imagine me muscling in on your house, then inviting others
to rent a room, and tell them the room is stolen, while trying
simultaneously to bring in more flatmates for my profit?
