4700 square meter, later reduced to 2600 square meter while under
Japanese occupation) were not part of Hong Kong until 1977. It was an
independent (self-governing) part of China in the middle of a British
colony Hong Kong between the 2nd Opium War and 1997 because of a
loop-hole in the treaty between the Qing and the British government.
