An ox is male. A cow is female. It may be fashionable to ignore gender
differences, but it is imprecise.
Oxen are a type of bovine, bull and cow are the sexes.
Oxen are usually castrated males. They are always trained daft animals, and the name is reserved for mature animals over four years of age.
Again, you are being imprecise. This undercuts any comic effect you might have been aiming for.
