Science has an opinion piece pointing out that there are a lot of parasitic organisms, and that they are part of the biodiversity that exists on earth.  Old timer TO posters may recall one of the arguments against Noah's Ark mythology was how many diseases did each of the humans need to be infected with so that they could be propagated during the year that they were the last surviving humans on earth.  That went for all the kinds too.  Just about every species has their nematode parasites.  When a vertebrate species goes extinct so do their diseases and parasites.
