Gaetz is a child sex trafficker. I don't want to hear Republican voters
whine about "protecting women" or "what about the CHILDREN?!" ever, EVER
again.

Trump, whatever is other qualities may be, is a very shrewd politician.
He recognizes that many of his followers are embarrassments to his
administration. Appointing Gaetz gets him out of congress. The next
step is an "arrangement" (contract, in effect), to deny his
confirmation, and return him whence he came.

Let's see if we are better off 4 years from now, assuming we are still
around.

Unfortunately, given the perpetual political amnesia from which most
Americans seem to suffer, that's not typically a useful metric. The
dingdong we just re-elected ran on "Are you better than you were four
years ago?" even though we are, by almost any definition, better off
than he left us in 2021.

It's like watching a cow placidly lick an electric fence, bolt away in
terror, and then a few minutes later wander back and do it again.
My reference to the dingdong's meme is the point. What worked for it
this time was the high inflation due to corporate profit-taking, and
the porous border; both in-your-face visible and easy to whine about.
My guess is dingdong's "shrewdness" will create lots of problems to
whine about.

You're not wrong, of course, but I doubt said dingdong's cultists will
be capable of putting two and two together. They will either insist
things are great despite all evidence to the contrary (after all, if
things are bad for the whitebreads but TERRIBLE for the queers and the
browns, that's what the GOP base wanted) or they'll blame any problems
on Democratic "obstructionism."
My guess is that just like their soulmates the British Conservatives,
they will make such a mess of the country that they will be
effectively wiped out at the next election. Only problem is that just
like the UK, the damage they do will take a long time to recover from
… if it even is recoverable :(

At this point, all I can do is hope the fascists are characteristically
inefficient, and waste most of their time and political capital
backstabbing each other and fighting to be next in line to lick Dear
Leader's boots.
